Passkeys and login security

How to set up passwordless login with a passkey, and how account security works.

A passkey is a cryptographic credential stored on your device. Instead of a password, you authenticate with Face ID, a fingerprint, or your PIN. Faster and more secure.

Setting up a passkey:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Under Passkeys, click Add passkey

  3. Give it a name (for example, "Work MacBook")

  4. Follow the prompt to register on your device

Add multiple passkeys (one per device) and remove them individually.

Logging in: On the login screen, click Sign in with passkey. No password needed.

Security: Login attempts are rate-limited to 5 per minute. Accounts are temporarily locked after repeated failed attempts.
